Learners taking the Cleaning Services apprenticeship will gain hands-on experience and tuition in this varied sector.


The Level 2 and 3 Cleaning Service apprenticeships are designed for learners who are working in an operative cleaning and support service role. It offers learners the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge required to confirm competence in their work role and progress further.


Funding band: £1,500

Length: Minimum 12 months

Sample units:

  • Clean and maintain internal surfaces and areas
  • Clean and maintain external surfaces and areas
  • Deal with routine waste
  • Clean washrooms and replenish supplies
  • Clean high risk areas
  • Clean confined spaces
  • Clean food areas
  • Deep clean equipment and surfaces

Career Progression:

  • Team Leader
  • Supervisor

Length: Minimum 12 months

Sample Units:

  • Examine staff turnover issues and recruit staff in a cleaning environment
  • Contribute to the control of resources
  • Supervise the cleaning of food areas
  • Provide guidance, resources and support to enable staff to minimise the risks of spreading infection when cleaning
  • Maintain a sustainable environment in cleaning
  • Set objectives and provide support for team members
  • Train and develop cleaning staff

Career Progression:

  • Cleaning Manager
