Course Description

Get equipped with the practical understanding and knowledge of the digital skills needed for life, work or further study. A Digital Skills qualification will ensure you have the skills and knowledge you need to find work and flourish in today’s workforce.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

    • Protect yourself from common online threats and risks
    • Quickly and easily find the information you need online
    • Use online applications to create, edit and share documents and information
    • Avoid physical and psychological health risks when using digital devices

Multiple course Levels: We’ll assess the Entry Level 3 or Level 1 version of this qualification best suits your needs.

Course length: This is a five day course, Monday – Friday, 9:30am,-4:30pm

Free course for: Anyone who is unemployed and aged 19 or over who has been living in the European Union for the last 3 years

Course Content
  • Unit 1: Using devices and handling information

In this introductory unit, you’ll learn the basics of using digital devices and managing information online. You’ll develop techniques for conducting online searches, checking the reliability of internet sources, and safely storing and transferring information online. Additionally, you’ll explore how to expand your knowledge with online learning resources and apply your know-how to solve common technical problems.

  • Unit 2: Creating and editing

Throughout this unit, you’ll develop the knowledge and skills to create, edit and enhance digital content. You’ll explore how to use different online applications to enter, edit, format and layout information (including text, tables, graphics, and charts) for a range of purposes and audiences.

  • Unit 3: Communicating

During this unit, you’ll examine the different contexts of online communication and how to use various modes of online communication, including email, instant messaging, social media, and collaboration tools. You’ll also discover how to effectively manage the online identity that you use to interact with others.

  • Unit 4: Transacting

In this unit, you’ll discover how to safely and effectively use online services to conduct a range of activities, such as shopping, banking, managing utilities and paying bills. You’ll also look at how to manage your account settings, including signing in, managing your details, and configuring notifications. Additionally, you’ll learn how to compare online buying options, identify the best choice, and securely make online purchases.

  • Unit 5: Being safe and responsible online

In the final unit, you’ll gain an understanding of how to protect your personal information while using the internet and digital devices. You’ll look at common data threats and uncover methods for protecting your data and devices, including multi-factor authentication, password management and data backup. Plus, you’ll explore ways to protect your digital wellbeing while using devices.

Are you eligible to complete this qualification for free?

This qualification is 100% government funded if:

  • You were born before the 31st August 2004
  • You must currently live in England. However, anyone living in the following areas is not eligible for funding: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England
  • Must live in the UK or EEA:
    • If you are outside of London: You have lived in the EEA for the last 3 years (unless you have have been given a special Visa/Residence permits that gives you the permanent right to remain)
    • If you are within Greater London: You must have permission to reside in the UK for the next 12 months
  • Are unemployed:
    • If you are outside of London: Can provide evidence of being in receipt of benefits (subject to eligibility)
    • If you are within Greater London: There is no need to be in receipt of benefits. However, you must be actively seeking work and available to start work (subject to eligibility)
  • Can provide Identifications and relevant documentation as required
  • For Level 2 courses: If on the 31st of August 2022, you were aged between 19-23, you need to have gained a full level 2 qualification (e.g. five or more GCSE/O-Levels at grades A* – C / 4 – 9, one A-Level, two/three AS-Levels, five or more CSE grade 1’s, GNVQ Intermediate, QCF Diploma Level 2)

You can enroll on one course at a time, but you can do as many as you like to achieve your career goals. We are happy to give you information, advice and guidance on any courses you wish to complete.
Of course. All our courses are accredited courses and you will receive a nationally recognized certification on achievement.
All our Home Learning courses are assignment based, you will need to complete assignments for each of the units of the qualifications and submit them to your assessor.
