We joined local employers, partners and support organisations at the Connect to Work Job Fair 2026, held at Hackney Town Hall as part of ERSA Employability Day.
The national campaign, held under the theme #WeGetBritainWorking, shines a spotlight on the role of employment support, skills training and partnership working in helping more people move towards and into good work.
For us, the day was about practical conversations. We met Hackney residents face-to-face, listened to their goals and challenges, and talked through the training and support available to help them take their next step.
The event was designed specifically for Hackney residents with learning disabilities, autism and other additional support needs. It included a dedicated quiet hour for neurodiverse attendees, helping create a more accessible and supportive environment. Participating organisations were asked to bring real vacancies or direct learning pathways, ensuring residents could leave with meaningful next steps rather than general advice alone.
We spoke with residents about a range of short, fully accredited courses, including employability, customer service, business administration, health and social care, hospitality and other routes into work. We also discussed wider employment support, including confidence building, CV preparation, interview readiness and links with employers.
Jonny Phillips, our Managing Director, said:
“Employability Day is a reminder that getting people into work is rarely about one single thing. A vacancy matters, but so does confidence, preparation, routine, the right training and someone taking the time to say, ‘Here is the next step.’
At Strive Training, we see how quickly people can move forward when that support is practical and personal. Events like this are important because they bring employers, training providers and local services into the same room, where residents can get clear advice and real opportunities.
No provider can do this alone. The best outcomes happen when local partners work together around the person, not around separate services. That is what makes events like this valuable — they help residents see that support is available, employers are engaged, and progress is possible.”
Ananta Patel, our Head of Business Relationships, said:
“What stood out was how many residents wanted clear, practical guidance. People were asking sensible questions: what course should I do, what are employers looking for, how do I explain my experience, how do I get ready for an interview?
Our job is to make those next steps feel achievable. We work closely with learners, referral partners and employers so that training leads somewhere real — towards confidence, progression and work.”
Thanks to Hackney Council, ERSA and all partners involved in organising the event, and to every resident who took the time to speak with us.
