The company I worked for suddenly went into liquidation. Instantly I was unemployed.

I ended up on Universal Credit, and my Work Coach encouraged me to attend Strive Training’s Civil Service SWAP – something that I’ll always be grateful for!

I was given details of the course, and decided that it looked right for me – working for the Civil Service appealed, but even if that didn’t work out, I knew the course would offer me general help and direction with my job search.

After all, my CV needed urgent updating and I hadn’t done an interview in ten years!

The sign up process was very easy, and I received notification that my course was due to start within two weeks. I started to feel very focused. Up until now, I’d felt a bit in ‘no man’s land’ and felt demotivated. Simply knowing that I had a place on the course helped me get in a new rhythm and kickstart my motivation.

The five day course was fantastic. Being online, it worked much smoother than I thought it would.
I learnt how to do a targeted CV for the modern day world, which is so essential to getting noticed. Never having really heard much about the Civil Service, I was excited about the opportunities they offered. Having someone from the Civil Service speak to us was a huge drawcard, as was gaining clarity on their application process.
The learning environment was easy and straightforward through Zoom. The course structure was good and support from the tutor was perfect! We could ask lots of questions, and I enjoyed being (virtually) around people in similar positions. It was very encouraging.

So online learning was fine – I actually enjoyed not having to travel and worry about childcare!

The course was a brilliant chance to upskill, and felt extremely rewarding once I completed – and it was fully funded!

I got a job with DWP East London! I’ll be starting in January, and I’m extremely excited.

I am so grateful that I was able to do the course – it’s directly helped me secure a strong job. I have a huge sense of relief going into 2021 now!
