Course Content

U1
Discover what’s involved in the role of an administrator and how to carry out routine tasks, such as answering phone calls, using office equipment, making appointments and managing spreadsheets and databases. You’ll also learn techniques for staying organised, presenting a positive image and maintaining confidentiality.
U2
In this unit, you’ll develop the skills to identify and produce a variety of business documents. You’ll explore different types of communication styles, learn why some businesses adopt a ‘house style’ and understand how to apply this knowledge in producing routine business documents, such as letters, invoices and memos.

Learn how to make visitors feel welcome, as well as the organisational procedures for receiving visitors in the workplace. You’ll learn how to treat visitors politely and in a respectful way to create a positive impression of yourself and the organisation as a whole.

Develop an understanding of how to make, receive and successfully handle telephone calls. You’ll learn how to clearly communicate over the phone, answer calls promptly and professionally, and adhere to any organisational procedures relating to confidentiality and security.

During this unit, you’ll develop skills in handling mail efficiently and securely. Understand how to manage incoming and outgoing mail, deal with suspicious or damaged items, and appropriately sort, categorise and distribute mail within the workplace.

Learn how to take an active role in your self-development, with a focus on improving your personal skills, abilities and behaviours. You’ll explore your personal strengths, identify areas for self-development and prepare a plan for reaching your goals.

Throughout this unit, you’ll gain awareness of your own individual rights and responsibilities in relation to work; housing; health and welfare; data protection and freedom of information; consumer rights; diversity and discrimination; marriage, cohabitation and civil partnerships.

Develop the skills to become an active contributor when working with others. In this unit, you’ll learn how to contribute to the planning of group and individual activities, give and receive feedback in a positive way, and support others in a group setting.
U9
Learn how to set and work towards achieving your goals. As part of this unit, you’ll identify a goal you’d like to achieve in your learning, work or personal life. You’ll then create an action plan to work towards your goal and actively monitor your progress.
