Course Content

U1
This unit explores mental health legislation, its evolution, and how it shapes service provision today. Learners will analyse public attitudes toward mental health, media influence, and cultural perceptions. It also examines current mental health services and professional practices, offering insights into how past approaches impact modern care delivery.
U2
Learners will investigate how mental health and well-being are influenced throughout life stages, from childhood to older adulthood. The unit includes analysis of national strategies, public health campaigns, and techniques to promote resilience and coping skills. By understanding these factors, learners can effectively support individuals in achieving positive mental health outcomes.
U3
This unit addresses the societal and personal impact of mental health problems, including links to substance misuse, offending behavior, and self-harm. Learners will examine the ripple effects on families and communities, understand risk factors for suicide, and explore strategies for providing non-judgmental, effective support to those affected.
U4
Focusing on various mental health conditions, this unit covers causes, risk factors, and symptoms. Learners will study treatments, including therapies, medication, and care planning within the recovery model. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration and person-centered approaches in supporting individuals toward recovery and managing associated risks.
U5
This unit develops the skills, knowledge, and attitudes essential for working in mental health services. Topics include professional responsibilities, safeguarding, confidentiality, and reflective practice. Learners will also explore the roles of various professionals in mental health services and how effective partnership working enhances support outcomes for individuals.
