Course length | This is a mostly part-time four week course, held Mondays to Fridays. |
Lesson times | The course will be held 9:30am – 2:30pm. However, the Wednesday sessions of weeks 3 and 4 will be 9:30 – 4:30pm. |
Qualification | Level 1 certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings (QCF), awarded by NCFE |

Course content:
- Understand the principles and values in providing health and social care for adults, children, young people, and in early years and child care
- Learn the range of service provisions and job roles within the health and social care sector
- Learn ways to respect and value individuals who access services in health and social care
- Understand the role of protection and safeguarding in health and social care
- Develop sector-specific communication skills, learning different methods of communication and how to communicate with individuals
- Develop awareness of equality and inclusion in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
- Develop awareness of health and safety in health, social care, and children’s and young people’s settings – including risk assessment and infection prevention
- Learn about person-centred support in health, social care, and children’s and young people’s settings
- Understand the importance of healthy eating and drinking for adults
- Learn about the main stages of human growth and development, the factors that affect development, and how to support development in children and young people
